Cheap lens mount adapters

I used to purchase lens mount adapters from Fusnid, I was always satisfied with them on my Fujifilm cameras. However, the online shop in the Netherlands where I used to buy them stopped selling them. Subsequently, I switched to adapters from K&F Concept. However, some time ago, the shop changed its transport company, and the adapters repeatedly failed to arrive. So, this time, I ordered them on AliExpress, three of an unbranded type and two others from Fotga.

The first adapter : LM-M4/3 (Leica M mount to micro 4/3), type : LC8267, had a lot of play on the camera, and also the lens had play on the adapter, making it unusable, price : €5,53 – from the same shop, I also had two adapters Leica M39 to M4/3, type : LC8272, these are perfect – cost €3.13 each. However, I also paid almost €9 shipping for these three adapters in total.

The fourth and fifth adapter were from Fotga, one LM-M4/3 and one PK-M4/3. On both adapters, the lens did not click into place on the adapter, one adapter got stuck on camera after mounting, it was almost impossible to remove it again. I had to force the adapter to disconnect, which is not great for the camera. I haven’t looked further into where the problem is yet, and I can probably solve it, but it’s not fun.

I don’t think the saying “you get what you buy” applies to Fotga either, because they cost the same as the Fusnid’s. The problem is production after control, and possibly some bad luck, either way…

So, I reverted to trusted brands. In the meantime, I’ve ordered new ones via eBay in Germany because, even in local stores, it doesn’t always work out. I tried ordering at K.E. in Antwerp, Belgium, no stock, and only on demand. The same with C.N. in the Netherlands—no stock.

A (very) long time ago in Antwerp, Belgium, there were several physical camera stores where you could walk in and actually ask for items. Most of the time, they had what you were looking for, those were the good times ! Now those shops are all gone.

It’s sad actually, those large camera store chains first eliminated the small camera stores with a wide range of gear, large stock and low prices.
Now they are cutting back on staff and no longer have any stock themselves, because it costs too much.
They say it’s the Chinese’s fault, but don’t we actually do that to ourselves?

  1. Thankfully here in Graz there are still a handful of camera stores with a lot of vintage stuff on display.
But yeah, the trend is there and it is not going to get any better.

    1. Hello ! well, what you say may be correct, because I have actually bought things several times in Vienna, Austria and also in Germany, and not from private people but from real shops. The British apparently also still have many physical shops, but since Brexit you have to pay import tax in Europe, and that is exaggerated on old second-hand items.
Thanks for your comment and for stopping by !
      Marc.

  2. A nice article again Marc. I tend to buy the cheapest lens mount adaptor I can find, although I have had more expensive ones given to me. Generally, I don’t think price really matters with these for the most part unless you’re after one of the autofocusing mount adaptors.

    1. Well, as I wrote, two of the five were perfectly fine, so maybe I was just unlucky. They are indeed just ordinary dumb adapters, and I also don’t really want to spend a lot of money on them, so I completely follow you. Thanks for stopping by Mark !
