My Last Fuji FilmSim Recipe – Reggie’s Updated Portra & HP5

Hey everyone, what started for me – back when I was using Fujifilm cameras myself – as a dedicated effort to gather as many Fujifilm Recipes as possible in “The Largest Collection,” is coming to an end today. There’s still a strong community of Fujifilm lovers who enjoy those recipes, but many have realized that sticking to those recipes and to shoot only in JPG, has its drawbacks. Especially when you want to see a cherished photo of your family, friends, or a vacation shot in a different way than what the recipe created. Then you realize, “I should have shot in Raw.”

Because, here’s the thing Fuji didn’t tell you: once you’ve taken the shot, there’s not much you can do to change it, beyond basic adjustments like brightness and contrast – especially if it’s a B&W JPG.

That’s why I always advise: choose your favorite settings and stick with them. And for better editing options, always shoot in RAW!

If you ever want to give your photos a new look later on – or do anything else with them – having that RAW file gives you much more freedom and better results compared to working with a JPG that’s already been edited.

That’s my advice, not Reggie’s 🙂

  1. I feel that “recipes” to mimic film have become tired, looking back at some old photos I took with my Fuji now with strange white balance shifts, I am glad I kept the raw file as they have not aged well!

There is so much more you can do using your wonderful LUTs or just editing raw files in general.

    1. Yes indeed. It was made very easy for us, and no real editing was required anymore, just JPG. But in the long run and for those who really care about photography, like you and me, Raw is still an important part of the workflow.
      Thanks for your comment Mark,
      hope all is well.
      Greetings, Marc.
