A few hours ago, a staff member on the WordPress.com forum informed me that many people had reported similar problems, and that they were actively working to fix it.
In the last hour I haven’t noticed any more problems with the media library, so it should be resolved.
The photo galleries and display of photos should be back to normal.
My photo gallery ‘La Gallerie’ is currently being changed live to another theme due to problems with the existing Cubic theme by Automattic.

Glad you have had some help with this, it can be frustrating. I have not been able to use a gallery in years! I won’t use the block editor so we have business accounts to allow for the web based interface. That might have something to do with my issues. Hope all continues for you 🥹

Good to know. The weird stuff I have going on involves some imported media files coming with a caption on them regarding Lead Technologies. Not sure where that comes from. May the WP problems settle down for a bit before the next batch of “improvements”. Allan
