Chassing Birds Raincoat

With the prospects of climate change and the associated long periods of rain (and hopefully some sunshine to), I thought it would be a good idea to complete my camouflage lens protection with a durable and highly rain-resistant raincoat for telephoto lenses.

At Chassing Birds, I found a raincoat in the same “greenleaf” camo pattern in size “S” that fits all my Olympus and Leica Panasonic tele lenses, as well as many vintage telephoto lenses I own.

Like the regular camouflage and lens protection, this raincoat is also very well made. Fine stitching, high-quality materials and professionally finished.

This camo raincoat has a second advantage: for those who might not (always) want the regular camo lens protection on their lenses, it offers a great alternative. It can camouflage and protect any telephoto lens from rain whenever needed.

The front end of the raincoat has Velcro to fit it to lenses of various diameters, and the back (camera end) has two Velcro fasteners to attach it to a camera strap if desired.

Regarding size, the size “S” fits the Olympus 300mm Pro, Olympus 100-400mm, and Panasonic Lumix Leica 100-400mm.

In summer and dry weather, I still prefer to use the regular camo lens protection, as it offers better protection when maneuvering through bushes. However, the Chassing Birds raincoat is easy to carry and quick to assemble when needed.

The cost of the Chassing Birds raincoat is about €45. While not cheap, the advantage is that you only need one. I can say from experience that camo makes a real difference for those who enjoy and intensely pursue close-up wildlife photography. For me, that’s the main benefit—the scratch and rain protection is just a bonus. For those who only photograph a bird or animal sporadically or when the occasion arises, they do not actually need this type of protection/camouflage.
