Deer Headshot

In Today’s Photo Gallery: A Female Roe Deer

Today’s gallery features a small series of photos of a female roe deer. These images tie into topics from previous articles on Open Source Photography, such as which camera settings to use or what makes the ideal telephoto lens for birds and wildlife.

While many YouTube professionals claim you need massive lenses, cutting-edge full-frame cameras, or the latest expensive AI denoising software to capture wildlife, that’s not always the case. You can achieve impressive results using simpler setups and Free software like RawTherapee, a five year old 20mpx micro 4/3 camera and a relatively cheap 100-300mm telephoto lens

This Friday, I’ll dive deeper into one of the key elements that made these photos possible — something I believe is incredibly important for wildlife photography. In the meantime, take a look at this series and see what can be done with a relatively affordable lens, the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 100-300mm F/4.0-5.6 Mark II, paired with the compact and budget-friendly MFT camera, the Olympus E-M5 Mark III.

If you’re new here at Open Source Photography and want to learn about the best free photo editing software, or discover why the Micro Four Thirds format is perfect for bird and wildlife photography, you’re in the right place!

Your support keeps me inspired to write more articles about my passion. A simple like helps, but subscribing makes an even bigger difference—there’s nothing more motivating than sharing knowledge with fellow bird and wildlife enthusiasts.
