Fireworks ! Well, at least I hope so—especially when it comes to what’s in store for Open Source Photography.
My goal with Open Source Photography has always been to stand out from the countless other photography websites. I aim to share my knowledge and gear reviews, as well as the expertise, tips, software developments, and resources like recipes and LUTs from many others—and all for free!
I can tell you, there’s a lot brewing in the engine room above 🙂 . Sometimes, we all need a bit of change to kickstart the engine again. As photographers, don’t we all face that from time to time? I often read about burnout, losing interest, or the lack of motivation to pick up the camera. When creativity wanes, try something different. Challenge yourself—it can be something simple, like downloading a free LUT from here and bringing new life to one of your older works. Or hit the streets and capture the life around you. Doing things you normally wouldn’t can reignite that lost spark—who knows, it might even lead to some Fireworks to !
Don’t expect explosions, but some changes are definitely coming to Open Source Photography. I’m not just talking about (hopefully) interesting articles, but the site itself is in need of some improvements. Over time, the site has gone through many themes and changes, and the menus haven’t always been updated smoothly—so there’s still work to be done.
To lift the veil a little, here are some topics planned for the coming months:
- Besides Olympus – OM System, I’ll be introducing another, possibly legendary, camera type and brand. Stay tuned!
- My micro 4/3 lens collection is expanding to L mount, along with the necessary lens reviews.
- Continuation of the popular “best bird and wildlife settings” with tips from even more well-known nature photographers.
- A new PictureFX LUTs series, featuring a very distinctive look and atmosphere—though this will come later in the year as there’s still work to be done.
- And many more gear reviews, special software features, and useful tips.
Even though I’ve stopped updating the “Largest Collection of Recipes Brought Together” focused on Fujifilm, the “Largest Collection of Film Simulations for Nikon” is about to receive new updates from my good friend Mark G. Adams of One Camera One Lens. Mark’s Fujifilm recipes were already legendary and are among the best out there. Now that he’s transitioned to Nikon, it’s clear he’s continuing that legacy with a new line of Nikon recipes.
Don’t forget about my LUT development line, PictureFX. The PictureFX Cinestill 800T now holds the title of the most downloaded PictureFX LUT ever, surpassing all my expectations with over 30,000 downloads and more than 1,100 likes!
LUTs are camera brand-independent, and the advantage is that you can apply them afterward, keeping your original photos intact and unchanged.
We are now less than two weeks away from the end of the August summer vacation. I plan to launch the first publication in the last week of August, so stay tuned !
So, hopefully, Open Source Photography will bring some Fireworks to your home! And be sure to Like and Subscribe so you don’t miss a thing!
Marc.
