The Year is Ending: Looking Back and Forward
As the year draws to a close, we’re just days away from the start of the final month. Before we know it, another year will have passed. What will the next photographic year bring? Hopefully, plenty of good weather!
As the holiday season approaches, the pace of publishing new articles might slow down. Not for lack of inspiration—far from it! My computer is bursting with ideas and drafts for future blog posts.
Building on my recent publications, particularly those focused on wildlife photography, I aim to end the year with as many articles on this topic as possible. To complement these articles, I’ll also share photos on my gallery, complete with details on how they were taken. Yesterday, I shared one such photo, and today I’m publishing another.
Capturing Wildlife: The Story Behind the Shot
This particular photo features a female roe deer captured early in the morning, just after sunrise. I managed to maneuver closer from a great distance, ultimately taking the shot from approximately 65 meters away.
The camera I used was the Olympus E-M5 Mark III. I enjoy working with this camera because it’s so small and lightweight. While some photographers might prefer cameras with a bit more grip—like the E-M1 Mark II, Mark III, or OM-1 Mark II—the E-M5 paired with the fantastic Lumix Leica DG 100-400mm lens makes for an ultra-portable kit. This setup is perfect for crawling through undergrowth and along streams without feeling weighed down.

A Note on the E-M5 Mark III
I’ve read reviews where some bird photographers find the E-M5 Mark III less appealing due to its limited ability to save custom settings. However, if you shoot in Manual mode with Auto ISO, those custom modes aren’t really necessary.
My E-M5 Mark III is set up with back-button focus, and this combination lets me handle virtually any situation with ease.
Stay tuned for more wildlife stories and photos as we approach the year’s end!
