Why now is a good time to Upgrade your old Olympus 16MP Camera

Well, it’s not just a good time to upgrade your old camera,
maybe you can use a backup camera ?
but also if you want to do a gear switch, like me from Fujifilm to Olympus.

Olympus Online Shop has been making interesting deals on non-OM DS cameras for some time now.
More specifically on the E-M1 X, E-M1 Mark III, E-M5 Mark III series.
A few months ago I did such a deal on my new E-M1 Mark III with 12-40mm f2.8 Pro lens,
and now I did the same to replace my old E-M5 Mark II with a brand new E-M5 Mark III with 12-200mm lens.
The deals are made especially interesting by the lens combinations.
A separate 12-40mm f2.8 Pro costs about €999
An E-M1 MK III body goes for €1799
I bought the body and lens kit for less than €1650 !

Now I did such a deal again :
The Olympus 12-200mm costs €999
And the E-M5 MK III body goes for €1199, or as a kit with the same lens the price was €1799
Why I bought this kit, well, I really only wanted the 12-200mm lens – there was a “cash back” of €100 – so the lens would still cost me €899.
However, now I paid €299 more, but got the E-M5 MKIII on top for €1199 lens incl. !

Meanwhile, we have started a new year and the old offers have probably expired.
However, OM Digital Solutions will still want to get rid of the remaining original Olympus branded cameras and lenses as soon as possible, so I certainly expect some very interesting offers.
I certainly didn’t mean the “get rid or as soon as possible” negatively, on the contrary, I benefited from it twice myself, and I’m very glad I did !
But OM DS recently made name changes, and existing lenses and cameras will now be sold under the new “OM System” brand.

If you are also thinking of doing a deal, remember to update your firmware when you buy a camera.
Coincidentally, I recently found out that there are more people who had problems with firmware update on a Windows computer, especially on older Windows versions such as Win 7 and 8.
My new E-M5 Mark III came with firmware update 1.0, they are now on 1.6, so an update could be very useful.
I updated my E-M5 Mark III on my wife’s new Windows 11 PC and OM Workspace, but I updated my E-M1 Mark III earlier via the LightSnow Dev website and via an SD card.

Please note, these deals are only available in the Olympus Online Shop EU (I don’t know how it is for other countries), and are much more interesting than the “cashback” deals that regular stores give.
The offers also change regularly, so keeping a close eye on the deals is important.
