The Olympus E-M5 Mark III: My Most Used Camera
If you browse through my gallery, you’ll quickly notice that the Olympus E-M5 Mark III is my most frequently used camera. And that’s despite owning two E-M1 models and even an OM-1 MKII.
On paper, the E-M5 Mark III seems modest: a single SD card slot, fewer custom modes, and less grip due to its small size. Yet, it remains my go-to choice. This has been a pattern for years. Back when I had my first E-M1 Mark II, I still reached for the E-M5 Mark II more often.
Even earlier, I preferred using E-M10 models. I still use these camera’s regularly, especially when I want to keep a low profile. Just last night, for example, I took some handheld photos in our village after dark. For that, I needed a camera with excellent stabilization—and even the smaller models, like the E-M10, have that. These little cameras may look unassuming, but they pack a serious punch!
So why? well, it’s all about size, portability and capability. These cameras are so compact and lightweight yet powerful and capable – exactly the reason why I switched to Micro Four Thirds in the first place.
If you’re looking for a reliable second camera, a backup, or even a starter model, I wholeheartedly recommend the E-M5 or its successor, the OM-5. They perfectly embody what makes the Micro Four Thirds system so appealing.
